Atlantic Sea Kayaking is another great option for families. Located in Lough Hyne just outside of Skibbereen town, Atlantic Sea Kayaking provide family, day time and night time sessions. Kayaking is a fascinating and satisfying way to explore the creeks and inlets of the beautiful West Cork coastline. For a more in-depth look, try diving or snorkelling – Baltimore boasts some of the most spectacular dive sites in the country.

Treehouse Indoor Play Centre & Café

New to Skibbereen, the Treehouse Indoor Play & Café is situated just a 2 minute drive or a 9 minute walk from the West Cork Hotel. The play centre provides a safe, fun and adventure- filled indoor play area for children as well as a relaxing space for adults! The Treehouse caters for all ages- babies have a crawl area, toddlers as well as juniors. There is an "imagination corner" filled with an array of traditional and innovative tours which are thought to promote interactive, sensory and role play for little ones. The Treehouse is open 6 days a week from Monday until Sunday (Tuesdays- Fridays 10am-5:30pm, Saturdays 10am-6pm and Sundays from 11am-6pm). 

Island Hopping

Baltimore, just 12km from  our Skibbereen accommodation, is the main ferry-port to both Cape Clear and Sherkin Island; seasonal ferries also run from here, and from Schull to Heir Island. 

For those rainy days- keep the kids entertained at Baltimore Leisure Centre or relax at a movie in Bantry or Clonakilty cinemas just a short distance from the West Cork Hotel. Take the kids for some history lessons visiting Michael Collin’s Centre in Clonakilty, Skibbereen was the last place he visited.

See the hand-made model towns of Clonakilty, Bandon, Kinsale and Dunmanyway. In scale 24:1, it's possible to tour all four towns in one hour. Watch the G-scale model trains in motion or take a ride on the unique road train from the model village to Clonakilty Town (just 30 minute drive from the hotel) and district. Then finish off your tour with a cup of tea in an authentic dining car.
