DECISIONS, DECISIONS….

These days it seems there is better value, and more choice, in the weddings sector. Certainly there are a lot of venues clamouring for your custom. Most, if not all, are offering packages that include red carpets, complimentary drinks, kir and champagne receptions, discounted rates for wedding guests etc….

And so, it is becoming all the more difficult to differentiate…

And to decide.

Perhaps the most logical way to make your decision is to take on board some of the happy experiences of those who held their reception at The West Cork Hotel:

David (35) and Melanie Mullany (32) were married in Gaggin, near Bandon on Septmeber 25th 2009 and held their reception for 220 people at the hotel.

‘’ It was fantastic. A really great day. It went without a hitch which was amazing when you consider we were living in London, and the whole thing was organised on our behalf by the Hotel. And our friends, many of whom had never been to West Cork, just loved it. In fact, there will be a lot of them going back! They were talking about the food and the service for weeks after.

David is from Ballinahassig, and on trips home both he and Melanie investigated several hotels capable of dealing with such a large wedding party.

‘’ But to be honest, once we saw The West Cork Hotel, and once we sat down with Charlie [General Manager, Charlie Costelloe] and saw the kind of attention to detail that he was offering, well, that was it. We knew right away…’’

So would Melanie recommend The West Cork Hotel to intending couples, be they based in Bandon, London or Dublin?

‘’ Definitely.’’

Paul Mc Carthy (59) and his partner Mary (40) held their civic ceremony and reception on 26 Fed 2010 at The West Cork Hotel:

‘’I couldn’t have been more impressed. The staff – from the people washing pots in the kitchen through the waiting staff and on to Front of House – could not have been more friendly, or more professional. The meal was fantastic; and the presentation both of the food and of the room was second to none. The champagne reception in the foyer – with that lovely granite backdrop – was lovely. To be honest, anyone thinking of heading up to Cork or Clonakilty would want to have their head examined: There is nobody who can do it better than the West Cork Hotel. And it’s not just me that was impressed: We had 40 or 50 people over from England, many of whom are widely-travelled, and each and every one of them was impressed with the standard of room and with the wonderful breakfast served the following day. Anyone considering an Anglo-Irish, or German-Irish wedding, or any kind of ceremony where people will be coming from, overseas, would be well advised to book The West Cork. I didn’t hear one negative, or even vaguely critical comment.

Patrick, who was born in Egypt (his father was an RAF officer stationed near the Suez canal) and who lived in Singapore till he was 10) knows a thing or two about luxury, and about service:

‘’ I was brought up in the dying days of the Raj. Saturday for me was confession in the morning, followed by lunch or afternoon tea in ‘’Raffles’’. But in terms of professionalism, courtesy, and attention to detail, The West Cork Hotel is on a par with anywhere I’ve been. It was a new experience for them, handling a civic ceremony, and they helped with every aspect -- from the licence to the registrar….’’

Asked why he chose The West Cork Hotel, Patrick laughs:

‘’Well, Mary is the daughter of a big local farmer, so there was no way it was going to be a small wedding!  We wanted somewhere that could cater for a large group of family and overseas friends… but where there was also going to a guarantee of personal service and attention to detail…’’

So come and see for yourself, in fact, why not arrange a meeting with Karen Buchanan, the wedding coordinator at the West Cork Hotel? Karen has been working with weddings for years: She treats each wedding day as if it were her own, taking care of even the smallest of details with dedication and precision:

“I love weddings; I love the excitement and buzz of the big day but I also get a great kick out of the planning involved beforehand. It’s wonderful getting to know the brides and grooms and their families. I’m often quite lonely the morning after a wedding when it comes to saying ‘goodbye’ to a couple  I’ve gotten to know so well – sometimes working on their wedding for as long as two whole years!
After planning my own wedding - as well as the weddings of so many family and friends - I feel I can fully appreciate the stresses that can often arise from the smallest of details  – things like tiers for the cake, the colour of chair covers, the photographer, the honeymoon....’’ says Karen.

‘’ But at least at the West Cork Hotel I can take a lot of the stress out of the equation, and offer genuine advice based on experience….that makes the job really rewarding for me, and the day really relaxed and enjoyable for the wedding-party.’’
