Mizen Head West Cork

Visit Mizen Head – Ireland’s most South-westerly point

The Mizen Head is Ireland’s most South-westerly point and one of the must do experiences in West Cork and Ireland.

Open daily from mid March – October and at weekends from November – March, the Mizen Head is a spectacular place to visit, and has plenty to do and much to see including the Mizen Head Visitor Centre, Care and Gift Shop featuring Fastnet Rock Lighthouse Model, Navigational Aids Simulator, Information and Exhibition Displays about the Fastnet lighthouse and the geology of the area. Slightly away from the centre visitors can take the famous 99 steps down the cliffs, to see the former Keepers Quarters and its interpretive displays, as well as access the new Mizen Arched Bridge and Cliff walks, which only re-opened in March 2011.

An experience to surpass expectations, The Mizen is also a popular spot for whale and dolphin spotting, and there are also often seals to be seen under the bridge – so be sure to keep your eyes peeled when at this wonderful location in West Cork, and don’t forget to marvel at the new footbridge, which after 18 months demolition and reconstruction work won the 2011 Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards Engineer Project of the Year.

A must do attraction in West Cork and just a short drive from our County Cork Hotel - the West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen; where you shall be spoilt for choice by our range of luxury West Cork accommodation including; Double, Twin, Triple and Family Rooms, as well as late breakfast option, allowing you to enjoy our renowned delicious breakfast in our Kennedy Restaurant in Skibbereen until 12 noon daily!
