A Taste of West Cork Festival begins tomorrow (Friday 6th September), and this year as it celebrates its 10th anniversary it looks set to be as full of flavour and fun as year gone by!
Running until the 15th September, the jam-packed programme of events that will take place in Skibbereen and the West Cork area includes food quiz, schools cookery competitions, food trails, workshops and famers markets, farm visits, fun family day, food talks and food history sessions, as well as A Taste of VM and the Celtic Cook Off, which take place here at the West Cork Hotel.
Taking place in our Kennedy Restaurant on Tuesday 10th September from 7pm, A Taste of VM with last year’s Celtic Cook Off winner, Donegal man Gary O’Hanlon, who will take charge of the kitchens at the West Cork Hotel to delight guests with a menu inspired by his VM restaurant at Viewmount House using a selection of West Cork produce! The following evening, Wednesday 11th September from 7pm, here again at the West Cork Hotel, the Celtic Cook Off 2013 will take place. This exciting event that is now in its third year will have a similar format to the previous years; but there are some exciting new twists to freshen up the format. With the event having a theme of “Bringing New Chefs into the Kitchen” and which will see both the judging panel and MC team be more high powered and international than years gone by.
The competition conditions are simple enough – each of our participating chefs selects the ingredients for their own dish from the wide range of produce that we enjoy regularly in West Cork, and in addition can bring with them one wild card ingredient from their own Celtic region.
The 2013 Celtic Cook Off Chef line up is as follows:

- Wales – Gareth Johns, Wynnstay Hotel
- Scotland – Joe Queen, Executive Chef of BHF. Member of Masterchefs of GB and ex president of The Federation of Chefs Scotland;
- Isle of Man – Richard Birch, Tanroagan Restaurant
