Skibbereen one of the nine Cork towns on the Top Tourism Town Award List

Fáilte Ireland has announced the list of 45 Irish towns and villages that are in the running for the Tourism Towns Award 2013 and in that shortlist is the West Cork town of Skibbereen, plus 8 more Cork Towns: Kinsale, Inishannon, Youghal, Millstreet, Clonakilty, Castletownroche, Rathbarry and Cobh. In its second year, the Tourism Town Award recognises towns and villages in Ireland where the local community goes that extra mile to increase their appeal to tourists, and how these towns have developed the local area in key tourism areas. Winners and high commended towns will be named later this year at the National Tidy Town Awards, when the Top Ten “Highly Commended Tourism Towns” will be announced. Then in November, the overall winner decided and revealed by Fáilte Ireland. We are delighted that Skibbereen has been shortlisted and from us here at the West Cork Hotel, situated in this wonderful market town overlooking the Ilen River and suitably located for tourists to access the town, and the many things to do in West Cork, including Skibbereen attractions such as the Heritage Centre, West Cork Arts Centre as well as the many nearby local tourist hotspots and picturesque places of interest, we wish Skibbereen the very best of luck.
