Take in West Cork along the Wild Atlantic Way

With Summer fast approaching and the Wild Atlantic Way route in full swing, there is no better time to discover West Cork. Discover the highlights of Kerry and West Cork whilst taking in the vast things to do in West Cork and the many hotels in West Cork. From the Kingdom of Kerry, the Wild Atlantic Way segues into Cork in a dramatic explosion of isolated islands and jutting peninsulas. Along this winding route expect culinary treats in a wide array of restaurants, luxurious accommodation in the many Cork hotels that are available as well as plenty of coastal surprises.

The first section of this trip takes in towns from Kenmare to Bantry, where you can follow the road as it weaves and dips along one of the widest stretches of coastline- the Beara Peninsula. Discover Ireland’s only cable car on Dursey Island and Italian gardens on Garnish Island just outside of Glengarriff.

Next discover the amazing scenery from Bantry to Baltimore, passing by the undiscovered and untouched Sheep’s Head, with many walking routes and inspirational scenery. Visit Mizen Head and its Visitor Centre, Ireland’s most southerly point stretching out into the Atlantic in a profusion of sheer cliffs and foaming ocean.

From Mizen Head to Baltimore, a big hit in West Cork are it’s islands. Cape Clear is known for its birds and home to the annual Storytelling Festival and Sherkin Island is known for its stunning beaches. The tiny Heir Island is also home to a restaurant run by Paris-trained chef John Desmond. Sailings from Baltimore and Cunnamore, respectively are subject to weather conditions. After exploring West Cork’s islands venture back to the mainland to Baltimore, a pretty fishing village and a haven for sailing enthusiasts.

From Baltimore, set coarse east along the Wild Atlantic Way to one of Cork’s well-known towns, Kinsale. Passing by numerous beaches on route to Kinsale, Clonakilty is ideally situated for surfing enthusiasts. Finally visit the pretty town of Kinsale, one of Cork’s most visited towns as well as the Old Head of Kinsale, which is an ideal location to take in a round of golf on its dramatically located golf course.

For West Cork accommodation the West Cork Hotel is ideally situated to explore all that West Cork has to offer. The hotel’s prime location, providing B&B in Skibbereen gives tourists the benefit of travelling only a short distance to a host of attractions.
