Happy Cork Independence Day

Today – Wednesday 16th October 2013, as part of Cork Rebel Week, the People’s Republic of Cork becomes a reality with the inaugural Cork Independence Day.

As part of Independence Day there are charity Visa checkpoints stationed around the county and city, with proceeds going to the Cork University Hospital Charity Children’s Unit Appeal, as well as lots of other fantastic events around the county including the Collins Barracks Open Day, a Toast to cork at 19:16 and the Rebel Food Market at County Hall.

Closer to home, one of the things to do in Skibbereen include "Wilkommen Zu Skibbereen" – the arrival of the German Marching Band “Spielmanns – und Fanfarenzug Hahn Nethen” to the West Cork Hotel. To mark this momentous occasion we shall have Skibbereen’s St Fachtna’s Silver Band playing in our lobby from 7pm this evening, followed by a civic Gala reception in our Ballroom.
