Count Down to Rebel Week Festival Begins

Skibbereen is hosting its very own Rebel Week Festival from the 13th - 20th October. This celebration for the Irish Gathering 2013 also coincides with the highly anticipated Cork Rebel Week, which is taking place around the county and city of Cork from 14th – 20th October.

Central to the celebration is the hosting of the German Marching Band – “Spielmanns – und Fanfarenzug Hahn Nethen”, from the 16th - 20th October and the full programme of events for Skibbereen Rebel Week Festival is set to include parades, music, sporting events, charity fundraisers and more as the business and sporting clubs of the area join together in a week-long celebration of “all things Skibbereen”

Events for the larger-scale Cork Rebel Week, taking place throughout the county and city has just been announced, with plenty of music, sporting, business and cultural events taking place, including a big celebration on16th October – Michael Collins birthday – when there will be an open day at Collins Barracks, a guard of honour at 10:30am and re-enactment of his one of his most famous speeches. The people of Cork are reminded on this day also that they should ensure they have their Cork Rebel Passport with them as border checkpoints will be placed around the county, with donations going to Cork University Hospital Children’s Unit.

In fact those Cork Rebel Passports will come in handy all week as they will give the holder entitlement to exclusive discounts and offers across the county in retail stores, leisure complexes, hospitality outlets and accommodation venues.
