Skibbereen Arts Festival 2013
Taking place from 26th July – 4th August 2013 the Skibbereen Arts Festival is a vibrant festival that is renowned for attracting world class international and local acts to feature in its packed programme of events. This year things are no different with the announcement that Valgeir, who is known for his collaborations with Björk, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Camille, CocoRosie, Ben Frost, Howie B, Kronos Quartet, The Magic Numbers, múm, Feist and Nico Muhly to name but a few will be playing on Sunday 4th August. Another highlight of this year’s schedule is the “People’s Museum of Skibbereen”, which shall be run by the Skibbereen Arts Festival in association with Skibbereen and District Historical Society. The idea of the “People’s Museum of Skibbereen” is that for one week only, a pop up museum of memorabilia from the town is shown, and event organisers are asking anyone who has kept anything related to Skibbereen to loan items for a short period during the festival. Drop offs for items are Saturday 13th and Saturday 20th July between 10am and 5pm at North Street in Skibbereen, and each item will be carefully logged and number and returned to their owners the week following the festival. So if you are in possession of any photos, tickets for the town halls, old menus, election posters, diaries, recordings, wedding dresses – bring it along! A highlight of the summer, the Skibbereen Arts Festival is one of the must do things to do in west Cork and for anyone in the area who has yet to experience the fun and frivolity, it’s not just for the adults, as the Skibbereen Arts Festival Children’s Festival will run from 22nd – 28th July and includes a number of indoor and outdoor events for kids of all ages.
