The 2013 St. Patrick’s Day Festival in Skibbereen promises to be a fun-filled few days for the whole family with a host of events planned in the town. The main event will of course be the St. Patrick’s Day Parade which will commence on Sunday, 17th March, with the route passing our very own hotel in West Cork, where it will then continue through town. This proposed route should enable a larger crowd to come along and join in the festivities on the day, as there are more groups than ever due to take part in the parade this year which should make it the perfect occasion to bring the whole family.
Prior to the parade there will be Irish music sessions performed on the street which should add to the festive atmosphere around the hotel. Following the Parade there will be live entertainment in our bar in Skibbereen for all to enjoy and revel in the Paddy’s Day atmosphere, which is likely to continue on till late in the evening, so if you are planning on travelling to West Cork over the St. Patrick’s weekend then why not avail of The West Cork Hotel’s special St. Patrick’s Weekend offer for 2 night B&B from which includes breakfast each morning and a complimentary Pint of Guinness or Irish Coffee on arrival.

The area of West Cork has a love of music and you will often happen across live current and traditional music being played in the pubs in Skibbereen and neighbouring towns of West Cork all year round.

This weekend in Baltimore it was the annual O’Driscoll Clan Gathering, known as the O’Driscoll Clan Mid Summer Festival, the weekend always has a full programme of events, including music and tours, treks, and speeches, and this year was no different. A highlight in the calendar and one of the popular west cork activities, the O’Driscoll Clan Gathering is in many ways like a large family gathering – a celebratory party atmosphere, where friends and family get together to exchange stories and memories.
The fun and festivities does not stop there, as next weekend, 29th June – 1st July, West Cork and the area of Baltimore hosts the Pirate Weekend, throughout the weekend of events including music, storytelling, treasure hunts and water based activities, a competition will run for the best dressed male and female pirates, with points awarded for costume and Buccaneer behaviour. Final prize giving will take place Sunday 1st July.
So if you are in the area for the clan gathering or maybe for the pirate weekend and looking for somewhere to continue the party atmosphere, why not join us at the West Cork Hotel tomorrow night, when we will have traditional Irish music and dance with “bacon and cabbage” from 9pm and then again on Saturday 30th June, when we will have more traditional Irish Music with Gordon and Rose in our Ilen bar in Skibbereen from 9pm.
