Charming West Cork Chamber Music Festival 2013

The best of Europe’s Classical musicians will be showcasing their talents yet again this summer in Bantry at the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, which this year takes place between the 28th June  -  6th July 2013.

Earning a reputation as one of the biggest classical music events in Ireland each year, this year’s festival shall see over a hundred musicians playing over one hundred works from more than fifty composers during the festival.

Offering music that originates from Romania and Poland, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Estonia and Britain as well as music from the United States, Australia, Turkey and Russia; the festival will be a truly global classical music event and will comprise of a number of intimate concerts that will take place in venues around the picturesque waterfront town of Bantry.

With a packed programme of events planned and many top names from the world of music on the bill, there will be performances by three of Europe’s finest violinists; Britain’s Nicola Benedetti, the Ukrainian-born Israeli violinist Vadim Gluzman and the Finnish performer Pekka Kuusisto. There shall also be music by Romanian composer Georg Enescu, as well as music from festival favourites Quatuor Danel from Belgium and Spain’s Cuarteto Casals and new comers the Kelemen Quartet from Hungary and the Jupiter Quartet from the United States.

More Musical Delights this weekend in West Cork

The sun was shining this weekend in West Cork and nowhere more so than sunny Skibbereen, where on Saturday and Sunday evening the Mart Car Park in the centre of town was the place to be for the well attended Skibb Beats Music Festival. A fantastic atmosphere in town throughout the whole weekend Saturday saw The Saw Doctors; supported by Chapter Two take to the stage and on Sunday Night Cathy Davey, Mundy and Jack L performed live.

Taking place just a short walk from our hotel West Cork, the Skibb Beats festival has put everyone in the mood for this weekend’s Liss Ard Festival, taking place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th August in the grounds of the beautiful Liss Ard Estate.

A popular annual event and one of the must do events and things to do in Skibbereen, the stunning Liss Ard Estate is a festival for foodies, music and art lovers and will showcase music and literary delights from international acclaimed acts, as well as the finest of west cork food.

With so many top named acts on the bill, it’s hard to list them all but taking to the literary stage this weekend will be Nile Rodgers, Jinx Lennon, Paul Howard plus many more, whilst entertaining us musically will be Chic, Lisa Hannigan, Nicholas Jaar, Interference, Mick Flannery, Toots and the Mayrals, Roy Harper, John Daly and a whole host of other top musical acts.

Music Festivals in Skibbereen West Cork

This weekend taking place in the Main Car Park in Skibbereen on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th July is the Skibb Beats Music Festival. An evening music event, Skibb Beats have organised free bus service from a host of West Cork towns to ferry people to and from the event, but have asked that those in need of a seat on return bus trips book these in advance with Dave Long Coach Travel. Alternatively for those looking to make a weekend of it and stay in town, why not stay at our hotel in West Cork, which is in the heart of Skibbereen and a short walk to the venue.

The festival will see The Saw Doctors; supported by Chapter Two take to the stage on the Saturday night and Cathy Davey, Mundy and Jack L perform on the Sunday night. Doors open at 7pm with music starting at 8pm – 11pm on both nights. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.

The following weekend, Skibbereen is again the place to be, as we welcome the return of the popular Liss Ard Festival, taking place on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th August in the grounds of the beautiful Liss Ard Estate.

A festival for foodies, music and arts lovers the stunning Liss Ard Estate will be filled with the finest in food, music and arts, inspiring all with literary and music delight, not to mention the finest of West Cork cuisine.

A Musical Week in West Cork

The area of West Cork has a love of music and you will often happen across live current and traditional music being played in the pubs in Skibbereen and neighbouring towns of West Cork all year round.

This week as we approach the summer bank Holiday weekend, there is even more music to be enjoyed in Skibbereen starting on Wednesday evening with Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, Irish Music and Dance at our very own Hotel West Cork at 9pm and then on Friday evening again here in our Ilen Bar we will have Traditional Irish Music with Gordon and Rose from 9pm.

Then as the weekend approaches the Skib Beats Festival will be sure to have the town rocking, as some top musical acts take to the stage in the main car park marquee on Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th July. The Saw Doctors, supported by Chapter Two play live on Saturday night and on Sunday night; Cathy Davey, Mundy and Jack L will perform live, closing this much anticipated festival. Doors on both nights will open at 7pm, concerts start at 8pm and are due to finish at 11pm. Event organisers have also arranged for free buses from all of West Cork to bring festival goers to and from the concerts on both nights!

West Cork Chamber Music Festival July 2012

The West Cork Chamber Music Festival starts tomorrow, Friday 29th June until Saturday 7th July in the nearby West Cork town of Bantry.

As always the West Cork Chamber Music Festival promises to be one of the must do things to do in West Cork and has secured a fabulous line up of around 100 renowned musicians from Ireland and around the World, all of whom will be in West Cork to perform an eclectic mix of wonderful and enchanting music in the glorious settings of Bantry, including the settings of Bantry House and St Brendan’s Church.

Located on the main road to Bantry and approximately 20 minutes drive away, our hotel in West Cork is ideally located for easy access to the West Cork Chamber Music Festival’s packed programme events, which starts this Friday night with an Opening Concert in Bantry House.

With special exhibitions of instruments hand made by Ireland’s finest violin and bow makers and performers such as British cellist Natale Clein, Irish tenor Robun Tritschler, German violinist Becker-Bender and the RTE Vanbrugh Quartet to name but a few of the stars to descend on to West Cork this coming week, it really will be the place to be.

Look back at what’s been happening at the West Cork Hotel

Over the past few weeks there has been lots going on here at the West Cork Hotel and in the surrounding areas of Skibbereen and West Cork. Here is a rundown on just a few of the things that have happened at the West Cork Hotel, what we have coming up and generally what’s on in West Cork.

West Cork SOS

On the 30th September, the largest public meeting ever held in the West Cork Hotel, with well in excess of 700 people from all over the region attending to voice their anger and dismay at the impending cuts to the vital, life saving Ambulance service to the area.

Skibbereen Business Awards

Then on Saturday 15th October, the Skibbereen Business Associations Friendly Business Awards took place at West Cork Hotel and we were delighted to have been named Best Large Business.

Frances Black Concert

Frances BlackThis Friday (21st October), the wonderful and critically acclaimed singer Frances Black preformed live here at the West Cork Hotel in aid of the special class at St Joseph’s National School. The evening was a huge success and enjoyed by all who attended.

South Coast Endurance

This Saturday (22nd October), the annual South Coast Endurance challenge race took place. The gruelling course, put participants through their paces with a 4.5km run, a 34km cycle, a 200m Hill-walk, a 2km, a 1.5km road race and not forgetting the brand new assault course! Huge Congratulations go to all the participants who took part and completed the race and special congratulations go to Stephen Tabb, who stayed at the West Cork Hotel over the weekend and came 2nd in the South Coast Endurance Race for 2011. Well Done Stephen from all of us at The West Cork Hotel.

Still to come

October is not over yet though and this coming Sunday 30th October, Crystal Swing will perform here at The West Cork Hotel in aid of the Cope Foundation. Also this week in Skibbereen the ‘Do your bit for Breast Cancer Awareness’ with Sean Murray’s Fashions continues with a special fashion show taking place within Sean Murray’s shop on Main Street, Skibbereen on Wednesday 26th October, followed a few days later by a tug of war with the collected bra’s on Saturday 29th October. All funds raised will be going to the Irish Cancer Society.

Activities and things to do in Skibbereen this month; include the ‘Do your bit for Breast Cancer Awareness’ with Sean Murray’s Fashions, who have asked all the women in Ireland to give them their old bras to raise support and money in aid of the Irish Cancer Society. The climax of the campaign will be at the end of this month when a special fashion show takes place within Sean Murray’s shop on Main Street, Skibbereen on Wednesday 26th October, followed a few days later by a tug of war with the collected bra’s on Saturday 29th October. All funds raised will be going to the Irish Cancer Society.
