2016 Fastnet Film Festival

Schull’s yearly and much anticipated Fastnet Film Festival is set to take place from the 25th until the 29th May and will play host to 300+ short films and features.  

This popular short film festival without a cinema invites visitors to Schull to explore alternatives throughout the village, providing those attending with a new engaging cinematic experience.

There are expected to be 50 expert guests taking part in the festival with a total of 46 planned events taking place, as well as screenings of competition shorts in 18 venues both in Schull and Ballydehob. Chosen venues include a bookshop, an art gallery, a craft shop, village hall as well as numerous local pubs and restaurants. Additionally visitors are also included to take the short ferry ride to the Long Island Cinema to view a short film programme at the Ferryman’s House.

This year world-renowned costume designer Joan Bergin is set to attend. Joan is famous for her elaborate customs from The Vikings and The Tudors.

The Fastnet Film Festival is now a major showcase for Irish and International short film production focusing on the craft of film and it has been held in high regard on a local, national and international level for many years.

Films screened during the Fastnet Film Festival include Sing Street, Stutterer, Viva, Mammal, Room, Into the Wild, Atlantic, and in celebration of its 10th anniversary, The Wind That Shakes The Barley. Famous actors including Martin Lucey, Orla Fitzgerard, Frank Bourke, Damian Kearney, Aidan O’Hare, and casting director Oonagh Kearney, will be in attendance for discussions following the screenings. 

Additionally anyone with a smartphone, laptop or iPad can access the server through Wi-Fi anywhere on the main street of Schull and watch any of the eight years of submission films any time of the day or night.

Directors, actors, filmmakers, producers and invited industry experts all share their experiences during each year’s challenging programme by taking part in workshops, discussions and Q&As.
