2015 West Cork Literary Festival

If you are looking for things to do in West Cork this July, the West Cork Literary Festival is set to take place in the scenic and nearby town of Bantry in West Cork from July 12th-18th.  A range of international talent will descend on the town for this popular festival.

Top of the billing for this year’s festival are Michel Faber, TV personality Graham Norton, Neel Mukherjee, Rachel Cusk and David Nicholls. The festival programme is also set to feature various Irish authors who have had recent releases of new books including Louise O’Neill, Christine Dwyer Hickey, Paul Murray and Belinda McKeon.

Local author Sara Baume as well as her publishers from Tramp Press, Sarah David- Goff and Lisa Coen are also set to hold a discussion on “The Myth of Overnight Success”. Declan Meade of Stinging Fly Press will also give his experiences of working as an editor and publisher.

During the festival Irish Times cartoonish Martyn Turner will take a look at what it means to be a political cartoonist and John Fitzgerald and Thomas McCarthy will present poetry readings.  The Children’s Festival remains ever popular with events this year featuring Shane Hegarty, Judi Curtin, Sarah Webb, Sarah Crossan, Yasmeen Ismail as well as the return of the popular Book Clinic.

Other highlights of the festival include a literary brunch hosted by travel writer Dervla Murphy as well as readings on Whiddy Island in Bantry Bay. There is also a range of other workshops planned including novel writing, playwriting, investigative reporting and poetry.
