That is why we were most interested in the results of a recent wedding survey from the Wedding Journal Show which highlights how big a role weddings play in peoples’ lives. After a few years of tight wedding budgets, the big do and day out is back in fashion with a bang with many surveyed preferring to save up for and splash out on providing a big day spectacle for family and friends. So when it comes to weddings nowadays the term bigger is better seems to be back in vogue.
From the recent survey the following facts can be seen. Many of the couples in the survey have either spent or plan to spend more than €20,000 on their wedding with many inviting more than 200 guests to the reception. Bigger guest lists and budgets call for a large wedding venue to accommodate the masses with large hotels and specialist wedding hotels being feted as the wedding venue of choice for almost half of those surveyed. And with a big majority 93 per cent of the couples preferring to marry at home in prime locations in Ireland, having a range of great accommodating wedding venues in scenic settings must be a factor.
Other information gleamed from the survey shows that the most popular day for holding the wedding was Saturday, although with 30% of the vote Friday is emerging as a rival, as it gives guests an extra day to recover from the wedding celebrations. For gauging the specific date/day in the month, the 1st day of the month proved most popular. In other areas there was a surprise when it came to engagement rings, traditionally chosen solely by the groom, surprisingly almost 50% of todays brides choose their own with over half picking a ring costing less than €2,500.
